Season´s greetings

As 2025 comes to a close, the GEOTHERMICA Initiative would like to extend warm holiday wishes to our partners, funding agencies, researchers, policymakers, and stakeholders across Europe and beyond.

The year 2025 marked another important step forward for geothermal cooperation in Europe. Throughout the year, the GEOTHERMICA Initiative continued to strengthen its role as a platform for collaboration, coordination, and knowledge exchange.

GEOTHERMICA continued to monitor and support projects funded under Joint Call 2021, ensuring steady progress and alignment with research and innovation objectives. Collaboration and knowledge exchange were further strengthened among national funding agencies, research organisations, and project partners across Europe, reinforcing a shared approach to advancing geothermal solutions.

Networking, dissemination, and policy engagement activities were further expanded through workshops, conferences, and high-level meetings dedicated to geothermal energy. Cooperation with national authorities and international partners also deepened through active engagement in workshops in Romania, a co-organised visit of the Polish Undersecretary of State to Iceland, and GEOTHERMICA’s participation in the conference “Geothermal Energy for Europe: Strategic Perspectives and Challenges” held in Krakow during the Polish Presidency of the EU Council.

Additional targeted meetings of the IWG Geothermal group and UTES workshops in Vienna, Austria, provided further opportunities for focused exchange and collaboration. Together, these events fostered dialogue on EU geothermal policy, highlighted the strategic importance of geothermal, and reinforced GEOTHERMICA’s role as a key European platform for coordinated geothermal research, innovation, and policy dialogue.

2026

In 2026, the GEOTHERMICA Initiative will continue to strengthen cooperation across Europe and beyond to advance geothermal energy as a reliable and locally available energy source. Building on the progress of recent years, the focus will be on coordination, knowledge sharing, and delivering practical impact.

These achievements were made possible thanks to the continued commitment, trust, and active participation of GEOTHERMICA’s member countries and partners in 2025. They will continue to drive collaboration, innovation, and practical impact in 2026.

We wish you peaceful holidays and a prosperous, collaborative New Year.
