Joint call 2021
JOINT CALL 2021 ACCELERATING THE HEATING AND COOLING TRANSITION
Announcement of call for proposals
The Joint Programming Platform Smart Energy Systems (JPP SES), in cooperation with the GEOTHERMICA ERA-Net network, have launched a joint call for proposals for transnational projects on 31 May 2021. Consortia are invited to submit their project concepts by 4 October 2021 (17:00 CEST).
A Joint Call of two networks
This Joint Call 2021 seeks to accelerate the heating and cooling transition by bringing together national and regional programmes focused on energy system integration and technological progress across various heating and/or cooling technologies, with a strong presence, but not limited to, geothermal energy technologies. Both GEOTHERMICA & JPP SES networks have been organising Joint Calls in previous years and decided to join the know-how of seventeen energy research and innovation national funding agencies from fifteen countries involved in activities of ERA-Net GEOTHERMICA & JPP Smart Energy Systems to commit to the joint innovation initiative in the coming years.
Thematic focus of the Joint Call
The GEOTHERMICA and JPP SES Joint Call "Accelerating the heating and cooling transition" targets projects with a significant impact on the heating and/or cooling transition. The Joint Call is a two-stage process, asking in stage 1 for pre-proposals and stage 2 for full project proposals with a budget allocated at approximately €32,5 million.
The concept of the Joint Call combines integration issues and technology development, illustrated in the model of thematic concepts below.
A significant proportion of the projects resulting from this call are expected to focus on district heating and/or cooling systems, which does not preclude projects with different scopes and projects on industrial heating and cooling innovation. The projects should address one or more of the abovementioned elements of the heating and/or cooling chain. A significant proportion of the projects is also expected to focus on local and regional sources. Again, this does not preclude projects with different scopes.
Participating funding organisations clarify the national and regional funding possibilities in detail in the published Call Text and Guidelines for Applicants- Annex 1. A national and regional focus on specific issues is subtle and creates opportunities for complementarity and joint progress.
The overall purpose of the Accelerating Heating and Cooling Transition is to address challenges communities face in improving heating and cooling demand and its integration into the overall energy system by turning innovative ideas into reality. The Joint Call Team encourages you to learn more about the scope and call objectives in the published Call Text and Guidelines for Applicants document, which can be downloaded below.
