The Flemish Energy and Climate Agency (VEKA), founded by the Flemish Government, operates since 2006 as an internal autonomous agency within the Flemish Ministry of Environment, Nature and Energy.

The mission of VEKA is to implement a sustainable energy policy. VEA focuses on policy preparation and implementation, the increase of support, regulatory and enforcement activities and policy review. The main tasks of VEA include:- promoting the rational use of energy including management of the available resources and funds, the promotion of environmentally friendly energy production;- the raising of awareness and communication actions on environmentally friendly energy production and rational use of energy,- to implement the regulations related to the management and development of distribution networks of electricity, gas and heat,- contributing to the implementation of the Flemish climate policy plan;- all other policy executive tasks concerning energy policy that is assigned to VEKA by law.

Lead person
Caroline Vermeulen, expert renewable energy and district heating, is a senior policy officer at the Flemish Energy Agency. She coordinates the programme for financing the geothermal installation and the connected district heating. She graduated from KU Leuven in 2001 as bio-engineer.
